Store Bought  vs  Farm Raised

Understanding The Difference:  Store Bought vs. Farm-Raised Beef

When it comes to ground beef, the difference between store bought and farm raised can be very eye opening to say the least.  The difference boils down to the matter of quality, safety and taste. Store bought ground beef is a direct result of factory-style farming.   This is mass produced meat which is definitely likely to contain antibiotics and hormones.

The difference in how beef is raised and processed has a direct impact on its nutritional value and flavor. Store bought beef is likely to have a lengthy supply chain and long storage times.  Local farm raised beef is more likely to have a better taste and be fresher.  It generally retains more of its natural vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.  All of this can be represented in a most obvious way, APPEARANCE.

Store bought beef is bright red in color due to preservatives and additives.  One common additive is propyl gallate, which is an antioxidant used to prevent oxidation and spoilage.  These chemicals help prolong the shelf life, but can come with potential health risks.  The use of these additives means the beef can stay on the shelf longer, maintaining an artificially fresh appearance.

The US imports beef from countries like Mexico, Brazil, Canada and Argentina.  Store bought ground beef is usually a mix of meat from multiple cows, which can include low quality scraps.  This blending process can affect the overall quality and increase the risk of contamination.

In contrast, our farm raised ground beef is always sourced from a single cow.  This ensures consistency and traceability. It also provides a greater assurance of quality.
